Given a ring $S$, an Ore extension is constructed using a ring homomorphism $\sigma : S\to S$ and a derivation $\delta:S\to S$. The new ring is the abelian group $R[x]$ with the multiplication dictated by the rule $rx:=\sigma(r)x+\delta(r)$ for every $r\in R$.
